Obituary:
FORSTER, Elizabeth-Hilbert (nee Day) of Haverford, PA died at home, with her family at her side, on Tuesday, December 15, 2009. Elizabeth was born on April 19, 1926 in Cambridge, MA. Her parents were Dr. Hilbert Francis Day and Elizabeth Vernor Henry Richards (a Boston social worker). She was a direct descendant of General John Lamb, who was commandant of West Point (at the time Benedict Arnold defected) and Collector of the Port of New York. She attended The Shady Hill School, Cambridge, MA and graduated from The Winsor School, Boston, MA. After graduating from Bryn Mawr College in 1947, she furthered her studies at Simmons College, Boston, MA, and graduated with a MSW degree from its School of Social Work. After she married, Elizabeth worked first at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. When she and her husband moved to Philadelphia, she served in Family Services, Sheltered Employment Agency, and Episcopal Community Services. She also studied at The Family Institute and worked at the Institute of the Pennsylvania Hospital. After ceasing professional work, Elizabeth served on the board of Youth Services, Inc. Elizabeth was a member of the Merion Cricket Club, Duxbury Yacht Club (Duxbury, MA), the Philadelphia Skating Club & Humane Society, and The Athenaeum of Philadelphia. Elizabeth was the beloved wife of Dr. Robert E. Forster, devoted mother of Julia Bacon Forster, Dr. Jameson Forster, John Montgomery Forster, and Elizabeth Forster Camerota, doting grandmother of Rebecca Andersson Forster, Katharine Henley Forster, Sarah Jameson Forster, Moses Day Forster, Jonathan Brownlee Lau, Maeve Elizabeth Forster, Robert Montgomery Caskie Forster, Christopher Andrew Camerota and Elizabeth Day Camerota, and great-grandmother of Orlando Benjamin Forster. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, December 23rd at 3:00 p.m. at the Church of the Redeemer, corner of Pennswood and New Gulph Rds, Bryn Mawr, with a reception afterwards at the Parish House. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Youth Service, Inc., 410 N. 34th St, Phila., PA 19104. Elizabeth will be interred in the Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury, MA.
