Obituary:
Carl L. Leneis, Longtime Shortridge Reisdent, Dies at 63. Carl L. Leneis died on Wednesday in his home in Wynnewood. He was 63. Born in Philadelphia in 1946, he moved to the Main Line at age 13, and remained for the rest of his life. He attended Harriton High School, where he starred on the crew, football, and basketball teams, winning a football scholarship to the University of Delaware. A member of the Sigma Nu fraternity, he met his wife Peggy on campus at a touch football game in 1966. They wed in 1970 and remained happily married for nearly 40 years. Upon graduation, Carl served in the Army Reserves and began a career in Distribution Management with Oscar Meyer, Sara Lee Foods and Dietz & Watson. He moved to Wynnewood across from Shortridge Park in 1978, where the first of his three sons, Carl Patrick, was born in 1979, followed by Brad in 1981 and Ryan in 1983. He remained there with his family for the rest of his life. His compassion and generosity were expressed especially through his kindness to animals, and he often arrived home with a stray dog or cat in tow. After one of the strays joined the family, Carl became a fixture of an informal dog-walking group in Shortridge Park and often spent his free time there, a favorite of man (for his lively conversation) and beast (for the treats that lined his pockets). After putting his children through college, he became an avid collector of historic Stangl pottery, and eventually persuaded his siblings to join him in the hobby – to the point where inter-family gift giving at holidays included little beyond the painted plates and pitchers. He approached life with gregariousness and good humor, laughing about the time that he gave winning lottery tickets to twenty co-workers but neglecting to keep one himself. Nevertheless, he considered himself a lucky man. He is survived by his wife Peggy, his sons Carl Patrick, Brad, and Ryan, his brothers Anton and Kurt, his sisters Martha and Kathy, many loving nieces and nephews, and pets Molly and Tootsie. His Funeral Service will be held on Tues. Feb. 16, 11am in the First Presbyterian Church of Ardmore, corn. of Montgomery Ave. and Millcreek Rd. Ardmore PA. Int. private in Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Churchyard. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Carl's memory to Main Line Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 89, Chester Springs, PA 19425
