Vera Mae Smith of Rosemont died on April 15th, 2010 at the age of 82. Vera was born on October 10th, 1927 in Philadelphia to Ora and Stella Seeley. She graduated from Overbrook High School in 1945, and upon graduation worked for Turner and Wescott as a secretary. After raising her three children, Vera worked for 16 years as a bookkeeper at Haverford College. She was a lover of all animals, especially dogs, and enjoyed her morning neighborhood dog-walking group. Vera loved the outdoors, spending many days camping, hiking, and fishing. She was also an avid traveler, participating in many educational trips through Elder Hostel, including Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Ireland, and Europe. Vera was an active member of Ardmore Presbyterian Church for 54 years, and taught Sunday School, helped with the homeless shelter, the Doubles and Singles group and breakfast club. Vera leaves behind her sister Kathryn Rickards, children Bonnie Olie, Susan Unger, and Robert Smith, and grandchildren Jeannine Shannon and Collin Olie. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 23rd at 10:00am at Ardmore Presbyterian Church (5 West Montgomery Avenue, Ardmore, PA 19003), with a luncheon to follow. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Delaware County SPCA (555 Sandy Bank Road, Media, PA 19063).
