Mildred Wurth King died peacefully on May 28, 2010 and lives in the presence of her Lord and Saviour.
A longtime resident of Chester County and wife of the late Peter J.M King, Mildred is survived by her devoted, loving children, son Richard C. Tice, Jr. (wife Cathleen), Royal Oak, MI and daughter Amy L. Tice, Harrisonburg, VA; a sister, Dr. Barbara W. Shaffer, with whom she lived; and a much beloved granddaughter, Eve Isabella Tice. She is also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins in California.
A graduate of Columbia University Presbyterian School of Nursing, New York City, Mrs. King dedicated her nursing career to improving the care and quality of life of the elderly as Director of Nursing for a family-owned nursing facility in Bryn Mawr. Mildred also received a Masters Degree from Villanova and was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau chapter of the International Honor Society of Nursing. In addition, she was a faculty member of Lankenau Hospital School of Nursing and clinical instructor for Eastern University’s School of Nursing.
Mildred loved to travel with family and friends to Alaska, the US Virgin Islands, British Columbia, Switzerland, Costa Rica and Nicaragua. While in Nicaragua, she used her nursing education skills to teach health care classes. Her love for the children and friends she made in Managua continued although her dream to return was not realized.
In addition to her family, Mildred’s support team during her illness included her Life Group from Church of the Saviour, many faithful high school friends, and several caring nurses from throughout her career.
The family will receive guests Friday evening, June 4, from 7-8:30 PM at Chadwick & McKinney Funeral Home, 30 East Athens Avenue in Ardmore, PA. Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday June 5, 11am at Church of the Saviour, 651 Wayne Ave. Wayne, PA, where you may call after 10am. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, Mildred requested memorial donations be made to the Children’s Feeding Program in Managua, Nicaragua. Checks should be payable to: Fields of Abundance Mission and must specify “feeding program” in the memo, PO Box 98, Pipersville, PA 18947-0098.
