Obituary:
Rufus Clare Rudisill III of Dunwoody Village, Newtown Square, PA, died after a brief illness on Sunday July 25, 2010 at the age of 82. He was born on November 3, 1927 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Rufus Clare Rudisill II and Grace McNamara Rudisill. He graduated Class of 1945 from Abington High School, enlisted in the US Navy on June 25, 1945. While in the Navy, he attended radar school until the entire class contracted scarlet fever. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on July 3, 1946. He attended Haverford College, where he was the captain of the track team and graduated in 1950 with a Degree in Economics. He was employed in various management positions for Food Fair Corp. in Newark, Miami, Baltimore and Philadelphia. He also was employed at National Software Testing Laboratory(NSTL) in Conshohocken, PA. He was a longtime member of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church; active in Haverford College Alumni Assoc., where he was past President and member of the Executive Committee in 2005; a member of the Scarlet Sages at Haverford. In 2000, he received the Sheppard Award for sustained service to Haverford College. He was also involved in a Macular Degeneration support group. He enjoyed playing tennis, dancing, quoting literature, attending study groups, and for many years was an academic tutor of youth; and previously was a member of Germantown Cricket and Idle Hour Tennis Club. . He was predeceased by his longtime friend, Patricia Gibbons and his twin sister, Elizabeth Berner; and is survived by his brother, Brantly Rudisill(Ellen); brother in law, Don Berner; and 5 nieces and nephews, Mark, Donna and Todd Berner and Anne and John Rudisill. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service on Sat. July 31, 11am in the Chapel of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, 625 Montgomery Ave., Bryn Mawr PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to either The Haverford College Annual Fund, 370 Lancaster Ave., Haverford, PA 19041 or to Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church Tutoring Program at the above address.
