Diane Eaton VanderVeer died peacefully in her sleep on January 18, 2023. She was born August 18, 1937, to Elizabeth Lummis and Ralph B. Eaton in Haddonfield, NJ. She was a graduate of Baldwin School, class of 1955, and the University of Michigan. Throughout her 31 years of marriage to George W. Budd, she focused on raising their three girls and enjoyed the love and laughter and trips to Rehoboth Beach with him and their daughters. Love struck a second time and in 1999 when as a widow she married Dr. Joseph B. VanderVeer, Jr. During their 23 years of marriage, they enjoyed many international trips and experiences such as Antarctica, Australia, and passage on the Orient Express along with residences in Phoenix, Devon, and most recently Dunwoody Village in Newtown Square, PA. Diane’s life was full of family, friendships, and faith. Through the marriages of her children and grandchildren and the births of her great grandchildren her family was a constant source of happiness and joy. She had the gift of friendship with many people, especially a group of six women who took eleven annual, memorable trips together under the humorous moniker “Ladies of the Evening.” She loved reading, the challenge of any kind of puzzle, especially the Sunday NY Times crossword (in pencil only please!). Philanthropy and volunteering were central to her values and she supported causes near and dear to her heart. Diane’s faith was also an integral part of her life. She worshiped regularly at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church. Diane is survived by her husband Joseph B. VanderVeer, Jr.; her three daughters (and their spouses), Cindy Yerkes (Chris Yerkes), Erica Budd (Tim Gerds), and Kathryn Budd (Maren Bertelsen); her two stepchildren (and spouse), Elizabeth VanderVeer and Joey VanderVeer (Pam VanderVeer); her grandchildren (and spouses and great grandchildren), Jessica Kastin (Matt Kastin, and Gavin, Beckett, Milo), Nathan Cecco (Rob Hornak), Casey Bilanovic (Ivo Bilanovic and Iva, Leo), Heidi Tabish (Nick Tabish); her step grandchildren, Noah VanderVeer-Harris and Nathan VanderVeer-Harris. Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 12 noon at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the following: Penn State THON (childhood cancer research www.thon.org), the Hunger Fund at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, or Main Line Meals on Wheels (www.mainlinemealsonwheels.org).
