Dorothy B. Adams, age 95, entered Eternal rest on Wednesday March 22nd, 2023. She was born in Narberth, PA. on October 19th, 1927, to Russell S. Basler and Eleanor H. Basler and has lived in Narberth, just about all of her life. After graduating from Lower Merion High School in 1945 and Secretarial School, she met her future husband, Robert J., at a Naval dance in August 1947. They were married September 9th, 1950 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Narberth. Not only did Dorothy sing in the choir, at Holy Trinity, when she was a young girl, she even later became the Church Secretary. She loved her work at the church, where she greeted everybody with her wonderful, kind smile and a big hug. She gathered all the information from the week and typed up the weekly bulletin and helped out with many coffee hours. She volunteered her time and delivered lots of flowers to the shut ins and Folks in the hospitals. She even bowled on the church's Bowling team with her husband, Bob, and their daughter Debbie. The Christian Faith was the pillar of Dorothy‘s life. She cherished the ladies that were in the Ruth Circle with her, learning from God’s word, and putting their Faith into action. Dottie also enjoyed going to the Gym at Curves. No doubt she enjoyed the socializing the most. She volunteered every 4th of July at the playground and with the Girl Scouts. She even sold Avon, bringing home the mini sample lipsticks. She has always been a very outgoing person. Dorothy also loved going down the shore. Her parents had a beautiful Cottage in Stone Harbor/Avalon and later after retirement her and Bob enjoyed a good month or more, at the Tahiti Inn in Ocean City, N.J. The rest of the summer she spent at Belmont Hills pool with her friends. She enjoyed getting her hair done every Thursday by Fritz and catching Petie up on everything from the week. She worked on puzzles, putting them together like her Mother. She absolutely could not wait to become a Grandmother. She had fun playing games and cards with the kids, taking them across the street to the playground, going to all of their sporting events and watching tv shows with them. Their home, for over 60 years, was the Family gathering place for many Holidays, Birthdays and Celebrations. She was always the gracious host with a listening ear, a genuine smile, a big squeeze and a warm, caring heart, all the while she and her husband were vying over the kids attention. Dorothy was an animal lover as well. She grew up with a black cat named Inky and over the years, opened her own home up to many cats, a few guinea pigs, an aquarium of fish, even a white mouse named Jake and a very special Beagle/Terrier mix Dog, named Sandy. Her most recent, Precious cat, whom was there for Bob and Dot, through both their illnesses, was their little girl, Lily. She was a Beautiful dilute Calico kitty with fur as soft as silk. Often they would argue over who’s lap she would sleep on that evening. A year after Bob passed away and Dottie moved to Assisted Living at Haverford Estates/Brandywine in Bryn Mawr, she brought Lily with her. She took very good care of Lily in her apartment there and Lily was loved by all the residents. Dottie was the only one, in Memory care, that had a Real pet. Unfortunately, when Dottie fell and broke her hip, she had to give Lily to Debbie to take care of her. Debbie would bring Lily with her when she visited her Mom. Dorothy will be remembered for her Generous Spirit, Appreciation and Selfless Kindness to others, Loving Matriarch, her Loyalty and an Immense LOVE for her Family. Despite living with Alzheimer's Disease for the last seven years, we never lost the Essence of our beloved Mom and Grammy. Her Spirit Shined, through silly gestures and songs. Dorothy, is preceded in death by her husband of almost 70 years, Bob Adams, in June 2016. She is survived by her Devoted daughter, Debbie, her sons, John and Bob, as well as her four grandchildren, Brendan, Shannon, Taylor, and Allison and step grandson, Scott. She is also survived by her sister, Virginia B. Wood, as well as her nieces and nephews. The family wishes to Thank Compassus Hospice for their caring support and guidance. A big Thank you to her roommate at Bryn Mawr Extended Care of 3 years, Mary, as well as her other buddies Barbara and Pat who would all keep her company, hold her hand and sing with her. Also to the Nurses and Assistants there that took good care of her. A Memorial service will be held at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Narberth, on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 11:00 A.M., followed by a Luncheon at The Community Life Center at the Church. A private Family graveside service will be held at Arlington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Remembrances may be made in Dorothy’s name to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Narberth.
