IN LOVING MEMORY Jean Louise Lippincott Wesselman April 9, 1948 — July 12, 2026 ❀ Jean Louise Wesselman passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026, at Collinwood Assisted Living in Fort Collins, Colorado, at the age of 78, surrounded by her children and the many beautiful works of art she had created and cherished across a lifetime. Her passing came at the close of a long and courageous journey, one she walked with quiet strength and grace to the very end. Jean was born on April 9, 1948, in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, to Marie Louise Beck Lippincott. She was raised as the beloved daughter of Joseph W. Lippincott, Jr., of the storied Philadelphia publishing family — the man she always knew as Dad. Education held a special place in Jean’s heart, both for herself and for her children and grandchildren. She attended The Baldwin School for her primary and secondary years before graduating from The Agnes Irwin School in 1966. After attending Bradford Junior College, she attended George Washington University. An artist to her core, Jean filled her life and her walls with paintings of horses, wolves, wildlife, and her ancestors — the subjects that stirred her imagination and connected her to the natural world and to those who came before. She was a devoted and voracious reader, rarely without a book in hand, and a lifelong lover of cats, adopting many over the years and keeping a household that, at times, rivaled her fifteen grandchildren in number. Jean is survived by her five children: Jennifer McCarthy of New Canaan, Connecticut; Timothy Wesselman of Austin, Texas; Emily Wesselman of Fort Collins, Colorado; Kathryn Shea of Fort Collins, Colorado; and Christopher Wesselman of Portland, Oregon. She also leaves behind her fifteen grandchildren, her former husband Christopher Wesselman, and her two siblings, Joseph W. Lippincott, III and Elizabeth Mather. She was preceded in death by her mother, Marie Louise Beck Lippincott; the father who raised her, Joseph W. Lippincott, Jr.; and her infant son, Erik Wade Wesselman, who lived only two months before passing from surgical complications — a loss Jean carried quietly and tenderly in her heart for the rest of her life. Those who knew Jean knew a woman of fierce spirit and boundless curiosity — one who spent her life reaching beyond the walls and limits the world tried to place around her. She met the world with an artist's eye, a reader's mind, and a restless, generous heart. Hers was a courageous journey from beginning to end, and those who loved her will carry her spirit forward — in every painting admired, every book opened, and every act of kindness offered to a creature or a person in need. ❀ A private funeral service and burial will be held on Saturday, July 25th at the Church of the Redeemer in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.
