John Kay Clement, III passed away from glioblastoma on April 26th. He was the oldest child of Henry Laussat Geyelin Clement and Barbara Strobhar Clement. After Haverford School, he attended the Dublin School in NH, and graduated from Trinity College in 1966 and received a master’s degree in history in 1971, also from Trinity. He was a member of Psi Upsilon. John was a long-time educator at The Montgomery Country Day School and Chestnut Hill Academy. He finished his career in real estate on the Main Line. He joined the First Troop Philadelphia City Cavalry, continuing a distinguished family military history that began at Bunker Hill and Lexington with Lt. Col. Read. Sargent Major Evan Clement served in the War of 1812, then John Kay Clement served in the Civil War. Major General Clement served in 3 wars from 1877 to 1918. His grandfather Col. C.F. Clement served in the Mexican Border War and WW I. His father, Captain HLG Clement was decorated for his service in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium, while young John was at home in Haverford watching his mother Barbara Clement winning tennis and squash tournaments at the Merion Cricket Club, where she won a major tennis tournament when John was 7 months old. John enjoyed tennis and squash having been inspired by his family sports legacy of Hall of Fame inductees at Penn for track and field and football, John Hopkins for Lacrosse, and the US Squash Hall of Fame and Middle States tennis Hall of Fame. John loved the Philadelphia Assemblies and attended for nearly 60 consecutive years until his Glioblastoma diagnosis last year. He volunteered at Stoneleigh, the former Haas estate in Villanova. He was a life member of the Society of the War of 1812. He was a member of The First Troop Philadelphia City Cavalry, and a 72-year member of the Merion Cricket Club. He is survived by son Timothy Rawle Clement, sister Anne L Monahan and her 3 daughters, Kelly, Chrissy and Megan, and brother Peter W Clement and his daughter Grace. His sister Marion and former wife, Jill Berguido Gill, predeceased him. His Memorial Service will be held on Saturday June 6th. at 11AM in the Chapel at St. David's Episcopal Church, 763 S Valley Forge Rd, Wayne, PA 19087 with a reception to follow. Burial will be private in the Churchyard.
