In loving Memory of Philomena Nakkazi Nsereko-Gyagenda June 23rd 1943 – August 24th 2022 Philomena Nakkazi Nsereko-Gyagenda was born to the Late Emmanuel Ddaki Serugoti (RIP) and his wife Agatha Nakku (RIP) on June 23rd 1943 in Maya-Nanziga Uganda. She was the second last born of eleven siblings. She went to Maya Primary school for Primary One and Two. She completed primary school at Katende and went on to Trinity College Nabbingo, St. Josephs Teacher training college Nkozi, Stranmillis college of Belfast in Northern Ireland and then Makerere University. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Professor Twaha Nsereko-Gyagenda, her children Dr. Musa Nsereko (Faith) of West Chester, PA, Isa Nsereko (Hilda) of Nateete, Uganda, Yusuf (Carol) of Nova Scotia, Canada, Sarah Nsereko of Stoughton, MA and Dr. Mirembe Nsereko Reed (Nathan) of Holliston, MA and grandchildren (Moses, Sarah, Nina, Sara, Adam, Adam Wasswa, Layla, Joseph, Jasmine, Kirabo, Samantha, and Ethan) She is also survived by their older siblings and their children Namusisi Nsereko, Zaituni Namale Nsereko, Judith Nantumbwe Nsereko, Dr. Badru Tendo Nsereko, Dr. Maryam Nsereko, and all the children of her deceased siblings. She met her husband, Professor Twaha Nsereko Gyagenda, in Belfast Northern Ireland and upon returning to Uganda, they got married on December 16th 1967. She was blessed with a loving and welcoming heart, a warm smile and an always calm demeanor. She was an educator at heart and dedicated her life to enhancing early childhood education both in and out of the classroom. She had an elaborate teaching career. She taught at Jjanya primary, Mitala Maria junior secondary school, Nkozi Girls demonstration school, Nkozi teacher training college, Mandal Primary school, Wandegeya Primary school, Kampala Primary school (formerly Aga Khan). At Nkozi teacher training college she was a teacher of teachers. In her last two assignments before retiring from government service in 1995, she was head teacher at Murchison Bay Primary school and then at Bbina Primary school. She later joined private service at Lohana Academy, Kampala Parents and Arya Primary school. She also authored elementary Math and English text books that were used for teaching in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. In 2004 she retired completely and spent her golden years taking care of grandchildren. The last book she wrote – “The story of my life” is coming out September 2022.
