Shirley Cummings Moyer died peacefully on the first day of spring, March 20, 2014. Beloved wife of the late Gordon Van Zandt Moyer, Shirley will be missed by her five children: Carol Haldy (Peter), Dr. Nancy Moyer (Stephen Prichard), Lucy Dubas (Greg), Janet Moyer (Richard Widmann), Geoff Moyer; and her brother Floyd Woodcock. Shirley had recently celebrated her 93rd birthday with family including many of her 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She resided at Beaumont in Bryn Mawr and also had residences in Avalon, NJ, and Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Not only was Shirley a devoted wife and mother, she was a professional water color artist and sang in the choir at the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian church for nearly 60 years. Her choir experience included performances in Cuba, Eastern Europe and at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia. She became an accomplished painter later in life, studying under Pearl Slobodian and Judy Antonelli and showing her works with the Artists Circle. Together with her husband, she sponsored a named undergraduate scholarship at the University of Pennsylvania. Born in Greensboro, NC, she grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, and attended the Haverford Friends School where she developed a lifelong love of the arts. She attended Guilford College and graduated from the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Occupational Therapy. She was an occupational therapist at Valley Forge Army Hospital during World War ll, and later at Haverford State Hospital. She derived much pleasure from her large family and will be greatly missed by her 10 grandchildren, David Stilley (Patrice), Catherine Haldy Jarman (Franklin), Dr. Stephanie Moyer Haldy (fiancé Ryan Kelly), John Moyer Haldy, Eric Dubas, Kira Dubas Haagan (Jonathan), Daniel Moyer, Zoe Moyer, Jennifer Dubas Bayer (Tom), and Brian Dubas (Jennifer); and her 8 great grandchildren, Vivian and Eliza Stilley, Caroline and Grayson Jarman, Liam and Lily Dubas, and Henrison and Elias Bayer . Memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Thursday March 27 at the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, 625 Montgomery Ave., Bryn Mawr PA In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, Wetlands Institute in Stone Harbor, NJ, or Wells Memorial Church in Avalon, NJ.
