Vangie Jaggard

Vangie Jaggard, born Evangeline Alice Grunow, passed away on April 16, 2026. She was surrounded by family, in tears and in laughter, as they shared memories of their life together. The love of her life and husband for the past 57 years, Dwight Jaggard, remains her most treasured and beloved fan. Her junior fan club, owning the rights to call her “Mom” and “Nana”, is composed of son Aaron, daughter-in-law Debby, daughter Kate, and grandchildren Sam, Ruthie, Josef, Olive, and Elijah. Sister Faye and mischievous brothers-in-law Harvey, Keith, and Marc, along with nieces and nephews, round out her familial fans. Vangie was born May 4, 1948 in Sheboygan, WI and grew up in Oostburg, WI with her sister and parents, Ruth (Wilterdink) and Albert Grunow, who she cherished deeply. Vangie would fondly recount stories from childhood with more than a full hand of aunts and uncles and multiple tens of cousins on each side of her family. Vangie stayed in recent touch with several of them, as well as keeping regular correspondence with classmates from primary school through her college years at Trinity Christian College (Palos Heights, IL) and University of Wisconsin – Madison, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing. After marrying in 1968 Vangie and Dwight made their home together in Madison, WI, as they finished school; in Pasadena, CA, where Vangie was a public health nurse and where son Aaron was born; in Salt Lake City, UT, for two short years during which they made lifelong friends; and, for the past 45 years, in the greater Philadelphia area where daughter Kate was born. Vangie and Dwight never stopped learning from or loving each other throughout their decades together. Their commitment to trying new things together allowed them to continue discovering new things about each other. They enjoyed travel, finding new restaurants, delighting in their kids and grandkids, and talking about renovating the kitchen (which finally happened after 30 years of fruitful discussion). Vangie’s love of both the Lord and people led her to be cherished by many as she poured into them with deep care and compassion. Vangie faithfully, and joyfully, prayed for and with so many others. Her strong faith always guided her as she ministered to children, adults and seniors (even when a senior, herself). She deeply valued Christian education. Over the years she supported the communities of Delaware Country Christian School, Hunting Park Christian Academy, and The District School with her time, prayer, and resources. She deeply loved the spiritual homes she found at the Christian Reformed Church in Arcadia, CA, at Trinity Christian Reformed Church in Broomall, PA and, most recently, at St. John's Presbyterian Church in Devon, PA. Vangie found joy, too, in a lifetime of gardening, the beauty of her flowers, and the fauna attracted by her various plants. Plants shared from her garden have provided decades of treasured connections to others. Vangie is deeply missed and will be remembered for her faith, her wisdom, her kindness, and her exceptional chocolate chip cookie bars.
