    Jim Armour

    December 13, 1926 - February 10, 2022

James (Jim) W Armour Jr, 95, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2022 with his family by his side. Jim was born on December 13, 1926 in Worcester, MA to James and Rachel (Longely) Armour. The family moved to Michigan where he graduated from Grosse Pointe High School in January 1945 ranking first in his class. He entered the Navy’s Radio Technician Training Program in February 1945 and studied in radio and radar schools conducted by the Navy. He served as Radar Technician aboard the USS North Carolina and was honorably discharged in July 1946 as Electronic Technician’s mate. Jim then attended Cornell University from 1946 through 1950 where he focused on Electrical Machinery, Electric Power Systems, and Electronic Circuit Theory and Design. Upon graduation, he joined the New England Power Service Company’s training program for college graduates. On June 18, 1949, Jim married his high school sweetheart Elizabeth (Betsy) Crane in Falls Church, Virginia. Jim went to work for the Lowell Electric Light Corporation in 1952 designing wiring layouts for stores and commercial buildings and promoting and selling electric cooking equipment to restaurants. He attended Harvard Business School from 1956 to 1958, concentrating in the field of finance. After graduating with distinction with a Masters in Business Administration, he worked as a research assistant at Harvard and then went to work for Pennsylvania-Bradford Appliance Corporation in Philadelphia in the financing and marketing department. In 1961 Jim accepted an opportunity to work at Electro Science Investors Inc in Dallas Texas. Continuing to climb the corporate ladder, he accepted a position in 1963 at Novo Corporation in NYC where he was Vice President of Corporate Development. He eventually decided to run his own business and purchased a package delivery service in Philadelphia, renaming it to Quick Courier Service and developing it into a successful international courier business. He sold the business in 1989 and retired to spend more time with family. Jim enjoyed his retirement years immensely, traveling far and wide with his wife, Betsy. He led an active life enjoying tennis, skiing, bridge, hiking, croquet, bicycling and time with family and friends. He was an active member of the Main Line Ski Club and the Merion Cricket Club.
