Brian Walsh, age 70, of Bala Cynwyd, a public finance lawyer and faithful member of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2021, following a long illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Pamela Haynes Walsh, and daughters, Elizabeth and Kathleen Walsh. Also surviving are his two grandchildren, Peyton and Mason, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many cherished friends. Brian was predeceased by his sister, Kathleen Wolfersteig. Born in Wiesbaden, Germany, to James J. and Alice (O’Brien) Walsh, Brian grew up in an Air Force family while living in France and several air bases in the United States. He graduated from The Choate School (1968), Harvard College (1972), and Georgetown University Law Center (1982). In 1983 Brian joined Ballard Spahr LLC where he practiced public finance law for 33 years. He represented state and local authorities; nonprofit health care and higher education organizations; energy, transportation and professional baseball entities; investment banks; and public-private partnerships in tax-exempt bond transactions. Complex deals and long-lasting client relationships characterized his work. Before joining Ballard Spahr, Brian served for six years on the staff of U. S. Senator Lawton Chiles in Washington, D.C. He also worked at the Sea Pines Company during its development of Hilton Head Plantation, S.C. Brian was a dedicated member of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church where he served on the board of trustees, the Middleton Center Council, and the pastor nominating, property, outreach and other committees. His community service included serving on the boards of the National Adoption Center and, most recently, Arch Street Pre-School. Brian was an avid reader, golfer, yoga practitioner, traveler, sports enthusiast and fan (Red Sox and Phillies baseball and Arsenal soccer). He will be remembered for his keen intellect, meticulous planning, tenacity, great sense of humor and especially, his loving devotion to his family and friends. Brian’s memorial service will be private.
