Jane E. Gulick PhD, former Lower Merion high teacher and administrator, died peacefully on Monday, October 2 at Dunwoody Village after a short illness. Born in Bryn Mawr, PA on June 13, 1931, Jane was the daughter of the late Samuel S. and Anna R. Gulick. She graduated from Lower Merion High School in 1949 as a valedictorian and with honors from Ursinus College in 1953. Her first teaching position was with the Worchester School District. She left to further pursue her career teaching English and Latin first at Lower Merion and later at Harriton. She then became the Director of Curriculum of the Lower Merion Schools, a position she held until her retirement in 1989. Jane obtained a Masters Degree at Temple University and was awarded a John Hay Fellowship for a year’s study at Yale University, after which she earned a PhD at the University of Pennsylvania. Jane was an active member of Ardmore Presbyterian Church where she served on the session for many years. Jane has been a resident at Dunwoody since 2008 and enjoyed spending her summers at her home in Ocean City, NJ with her family. Jane is survived by her sisters Nancy G. Larson, Alice G. Sykes (Bill), one niece and three nephews. A memorial service for family and friends will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2PM in the chapel of the Ardmore Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jane’s memory may be made to the Ardmore Presbyterian Church, 5 West Montgomery Avenue, Ardmore PA 19003.
