JENNIE ADAMS BOWEN Age 92, beloved wife of the late Nelson D. (Bud) Bowen, VMD, of Montrose, PA. passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Kirksville, MO, on April 18, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Amos E. and Verna (nee Tingley) Adams. Jennie grew up in Montrose and attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing receiving her RN in 1946. She raised five children while assisting Bud in his veterinary practice. Later, she worked for years as a nurse at Montrose General Hospital. Jennie belonged to the Gradale Club, Junior Women’s Club and Monday Evening Club. Passionate about community service, she was a member of The Red Cross Board of Directors, a member of the Montrose Borough Planning Commission and served on the Vestry of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. The Montrose Area Adult School honored her as a Legacy Lady in 2011. She was a caring, committed and thoughtful citizen who shared her time and talent. Jennie was curious, non judgmental and receptive to new ideas. After retiring, Jennie began art lessons. She joined Hill Country Artists and became an accomplished painter. She traveled extensively throughout Europe and visited South Africa and Madagascar. Jennie celebrated her 91st birthday in Tokyo, Japan. Jennie was predeceased by her son, Stephen A. Bowen. She is survived by her children, Lisa Johnson (Jay) of West Chester, PA, Anne Dannenberg (Charles), of West Chester, PA, Mary Adkins (Paul) of Wynnewood, PA and James Bowen (Mitzi) of Boca Raton, FL. Also survived by ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Predeceased in death by her brother, Raymond E. Adams (Lois), she is survived by her brother, Edrick A. Adams (Judith), brother in law, John J. Bowen (Joyce) and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Montrose, PA on April 14, 2018, 11 am, with a reception to follow. Internment Montrose Cemetery.
