Lynn Ennis Iozzo, Ph.D., of Gladwyne, PA, died peacefully surrounded by family on Friday January 3rd, 2014. Lynn Ennis Iozzo was born in Boise, Idaho, on Sept. 7, 1949. She spent her youth with her family in adventures between Boise and Sun Valley, Idaho. The siren's call of Italy's magnificent art, music, and history, however, drew Lynn to ten years' living in Florence, Italy, where she met her future husband, Dr. Renato V. Iozzo. She graduated from the University of Florence with a doctorate degree Summa cum laude in Etruscan Studies, in July of 1977. She was the first American woman to graduate from such a prestigious Classical University. In 1982, Lynn and Renato moved to the Philadelphia area where he was able to develop his expertise in cancer research, and she was able to explore the magnificent cultural institutions which abound in this area. The additions of their two sons Rex and Alex made the Philadelphia Experience complete and incomparably satisfying. In 1994, Lynn began teaching Middle School Latin at The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Not only was she able to enjoy the educational process with hundreds of memorable students and splendid colleagues, but she was also able to take many groups of young people to Italy. She also accompanied several students on summer "digs" at a Roman Villa in Tuscany, quite a unique opportunity for younger students. Lynn is survived by her husband Renato and sons Alex and Rex of Gladwyne, PA; by her both beloved sister Paula Ennis of Stowe, VT, and brother Scott Ennis of Cupertino, CA, with their respective spouses Jim Black and Leia Tunnaye; by her niece Kat and nephews Matt and Patrick; by her mother-in-law Maria and brother-in-law Mario Iozzo of Florence, Italy, and by her Italian nephews Marco and Giuseppe and niece Antonella; and by five cousins in Idaho. In celebration of Lynn’s life, a memorial service for her will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2014, 1:00 pm, at Shipley School. Donations - in lieu of flowers - may be made to: The Shipley School (Dr. Lynn Ennis Iozzo Memorial Scholarship Fund) and send it to Chris Farr, Director of Development, The Shipley School, 814 Yarrow Street, Bryn Mawr, PA 19010.

Dear Renato, Rex and Alex, My sincerest condolences to you and your extended family.
As I write this, I am filled with tears and smiles, remembering the joys of Latin class at Bush in Seattle, italian pizza nights and cycling through italy in '81... I was blessed to continue a friendship with Lynn over the years from afar, and share with you also the blessings and fond memories from my classmates and friends back home. Renato, Rex & Alex, I am so very sorry for your loss. Lynn Iozzo was one of the most amazing teachers my 3 kids ever had. I will never forget the first time I met her at a Parent's night at the Shipley Middle School. She was dressed in an outrageous costume and gave a hilarious talk which made every parent there wish they were back in the 7th grade. Lynn was adored by her students, but parents also loved her because she cared so deeply about all of the kids. Alex and my son Peter were close friends, singing in Madriguys together and rowing a double together in Crew Senior year. It was always a blast to share crew tent duty with her.
