William "Bill" Summerfield Gray III

William “Bill” Summerfield Gray III passed away on September 9, 2026. He is survived by his loving children, Nicole Arlene Gray and William Summerfield Gray IV, and his former wife, Tanya; his mother, Dorothy M. Gray; his sisters, Laurie (Craig) Markle and Kelley (Joe) Sloss; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William Summerfield Gray Jr. in 2020. Bill was born and raised in Narberth, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Lower Merion High School in 1978. He played soccer during his high school years and continued playing at the Mont Alto branch campus of Penn State. He graduated from University Park in 1983. Bill managed and helped to run the business for A. Talone’s Dry Cleaning in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, before moving into HVAC work. He also spent a number of years substitute teaching in the Coatesville Area School District, where he truly enjoyed working with middle school students. Bill will be remembered as a loving father, son, and brother with an incredible personality. He had a caring and generous heart and was a jokester and an organizer of “fun,” whether it was for his family, friends, or members of his church. He loved hosting Penn State tailgates and bowl parties, earning the nickname “Bill Grill” for his amazing tailgate cooking. Bringing people together, sharing a good meal, and making memories were some of the things he enjoyed most. Bill loved volleyball, playing in tournaments and leagues for more than twenty years. He also coached high school volleyball at Coatesville and refereed in several leagues. Bill enjoyed playing soccer in high school and at Penn State. He later shared his love of the game by coaching soccer at Bala Cynwyd Middle School and coaching his own children’s youth soccer teams. Bill’s true passion was his family. He took great pride in watching his children grow and in participating in the activities they loved, including soccer, volleyball, the outdoors, Boy Scouts, Penn State, and OCNJ. He also enjoyed working alongside his late father and family in Narberth Community Theatre productions. Bill served as a leader on the Family Ministry Team and as a trustee for Fairview Presbyterian Church in Glenmoore, Pennsylvania, for a number of years. Prior to that, he was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. More than anything, Bill will be remembered for the joy, laughter, generosity, and fun he brought to the people around him. He had a gift for bringing people together and making ordinary moments memorable. His love for his family, his wonderful sense of humor, and his caring spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Bill’s memory will live on through his children, family, friends, and the many people whose lives he touched. Services will be held on Monday, September 21st with visitation with family at 10:00 am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am at the Ardmore Presbyterian Church 5 W. Montgomery Ave. Ardmore Pa 19003. There will be a gathering for refreshments at the conclusion of the service, with internment to follow at the West Laurel Hill Cemetery.
